Prompt: In “A Rose for Emily,” Miss Emily’s actions shock the reader—she kills her fiancé and keeps his body in her home for years. People often react with disbelief when they hear about real-life stories that seem just as unbelievable. Write about the most shocking or “craziest” news story you have ever heard. What happened, and why did it stand out to you? How did people react to it, and what does it reveal about human behavior?

Prompt Response:  One of the most shocking news stories I ever heard was about a woman who was stealing packages from her own neighborhood. For months, people thought their deliveries were just getting lost, but eventually a doorbell camera caught her taking boxes right off her neighbors’ porches. What made the story stand out to me was that she lived on the same street as the people she was stealing from, so no one suspected her at first. When the story spread, people reacted with frustration and surprise because it felt like a major breach of trust. It showed how people sometimes make bad choices even when they know others rely on them. It also revealed how quickly trust can break when someone in a community acts dishonestly.

Summary: We continued to read the story and answer questions on it.

Reflection: I learned new parts of the story.
