I recited my poem

Prompt: As the first semester comes to an end, take time to reflect on your learning and growth in this course. In a well-developed response, explain what you enjoyed most about the class, identify the project or assignment you found most engaging, and discuss which aspect of the course you connected with the most (such as poetry, fiction, writing, or discussion). Finally, reflect on one area where you feel you need additional support or improvement as we move into the spring semester.

Prompt Response: I think that I have grown in this course, as I have learned a lot of things that I would have never learned. I enjoyed the discussion we had in class, as it was very interesting and engaging. I also enjoyed the projects that we did, as we got to use our own knowledge and creativity at work. I think I connected with the poerty the most because the poems that we read appeled to a lot of senses and emotions and I thought thats what made it interesting. I felt like I needed additonal support or improvement on the writable assignments because I felt like we didnt have a lot of time on them and I thought they were graded very harsh. Summary: We only did our blog post. Reflection: I did the new blog post.

Prompt: Many holidays center around traditions. Describe one tradition that is important to you or your family and explain why it still matters (or why it no longer does).

Prompt Response: One tradition that is important to my family would be handing out presents. We've been doing this for as long as I can remember, and it has been a great memory of my childhood. It doesn't matter as much anymore because for me it's not as much about the presents but more about hanging out with family and enjoying quality time. I love holidays and traditions its just my views on them have changed. Summary: I was sick  Reflection: I was sick

Prompt: How have the holidays changed as you have grown older? Compare your experiences of the holidays during childhood with how you experience them now, focusing on shifts in perspective, responsibilities, or emotional meaning.

Prompt Response: The holidays have changed as I have gotten older because now the holidays are more about spending time with family, whereas before it was more about the presents and Santa Claus. I think that it is better now because the holidays have a better meaning and make me more grateful for what I have. Although I miss believing in Santa and leaving out carrots for the reindeer, I have learned that the holidays are a time to spend time with family and enjoy quality time. Summary: I was sick  Reflection: I was sick

Prompt: Write about something you’ve outgrown but still miss.

Prompt Response: Something that I have outgrown but still miss would be playing recess football. The memories and friends I made playing recess football are beyond anything else. I can remember every day in elementary school looking forward to recess. I can remember scoring game-winning touchdowns and celebrating with my friends. I know that I have outgrown recess, but the memories I made during recess were beyond any other time in my life. Summary: We took a test on the vocabulary and read a new poem. Reflection: I learned a new poem.

Prompt: Write about something that you can't stop thinking about.

Prompt Response: I can't stop thinking about my future and where I am going to go to college. This is always on my mind and is what motivates me to do my work. I know that I want to go to the University of Georgia, but it's a very hard school to get into. All the what-if scenarios are playing through my head constantly, and put a lot of pressure on me. I know that if I stay true to who I am, then only good things will happen. Summary: In class, we read and analyzed a new poem. Reflection: I learned the new poem we read.

December 9th Cultural identity mask

Image
Reflection: This is my cultural mask, and today in class, we presented it. I put the things that made me who I am today, and that was why I enjoyed doing this project.

Prompt: Write about the best gift you have received.

Prompt Response: The best gift I have ever received was a basketball hoop. It was my favorite because I used it every day for as long as I could remember. I practiced on the hoop so much that I would rarely miss when I played with my friends. Unfortunately, my goal fell over on the driveway way and the backboard fell off. Since that day, I haven't played as much as I used to, and it makes me sad because I had so many memories with that gift, and it's why it's my favorite gift I have ever received. Summary: In class, we did vocabulary. Reflection: I learned new vocabulary words.

Prompt: After watching the short film Identity, write a blog post reflecting on how the masks in the film represent the pressure to fit in and the struggle to discover who you really are. Choose one moment from the film that stood out to you and explain why. Then, connect the film’s message to Langston Hughes’ poem “I, Too” and to the mask you are creating in class. What part of your identity do you want your mask to reveal?

Prompt Response: The moment when she fell, and her mask broke, really stood out to me because she panicked and felt like her identity was gone. Without her identity, she could feel left out, as she is the only one without a broken mask. This relates to our projects as the mask we are making is a sign of our identities as people, and it represent us. I want my mask to represent all the things that are important to me. Like my hobbies, family, and other things that I find important. Summary: We watched a video, then I checked out. Reflection: I learned what the mask really meant.

Prompt: In “I, Too,” the speaker expresses pride in his identity and his rightful place in America. Reflect on your own life: What aspect of your cultural identity are you most proud of, and why?

Prompt Response: I am most proud of being an American and the patriotism that comes with that. I feel like being an American is empowering, and I feel so proud of how this country was built. I'm proud to be an American because we get to celebrate a lot of cool things. For example, we get to celebrate the 4th of July, Thanksgiving, Labor Day, Presidents' Day and etc. These holidays make me reflect on how lucky we are to live in America, where people who hate living here won't leave. That shows how great our country is and how we can't take it for granted. Summary: We read a new poem and started our mask project. Reflection: I learned a new poem.

Prompt: In “We Real Cool,” the speakers make choices that seem exciting, bold, and rebellious, even though those choices lead to consequences. Write about a moment in your own life when you followed what looked cool or fun, only to realize afterwards that it wasn’t the smart or responsible path. What influenced your decision, and how did your perspective change later?

Prompt Response: I can relate to this, as when I was in Florida with my friends, they decided to sneak out. I got peer-pressured into going, and I knew from the very beginning that it was a very bad decision. But reluctantly I went, and looking back, I did enjoy the time and made some good memories, but at the same time, the whole time we were out, I was sick to my stomach and was trying to keep my mind off whether we were going to get caught or not. At the end of the day, I felt like I was peer-pressured into a situation that was neither smart nor responsible. Summary: We learned a new poem and wrote down things that we thought were cool and not cool Reflection: I learned a new poem.

Prompt: Discuss something meaningful or memorable you experienced over the break, or reflect on what you felt most thankful for during that time.

Prompt Response: A memorable experience from the break was a trip to Florida that I took with the basketball team. It was fun because I got to make great memories with friends and play basketball. For example, when we played football on the beach, and then threw the frisbee around for hours. I also enjoyed the late nights staying up, talking, and watching movies. The trip created memories for me that I will remember for the rest of my life. Summary: Today in class, we did new vocabulary words. Reflection: I learned new vocabulary words.
